Get to Know: Melissa Michalak

Melissa is our go-to freelance producer. She has worked in the industry for a number of years, which includes producing commercials for clients, such as Folgers, Audio-Technica and Valvoline. Being from Chicago, she hates that the Nashville Predators beat the Blackhawks in this years’ hockey season. (Welcome to Smashville, Melissa.) You’re likely to never meet a more kind, hardworking, generous producer in this business. Melissa puts the needs of her clients and crew members above her own, and her attitude speaks for itself. If you have Melissa on your project as a producer, count yourself extremely lucky. Now, let’s hear a little bit more from Melissa, herself:

Name: Melissa Michalak (mi-HAW-lick)

Astrological Sign: Scorpio

What the hell do you do here?: I do all the behind-the-scenes planning for shoots. I take the Director’s and Client’s vision and help bring them to reality.

Origin: Proud Chicagoan (more specifically, the suburb of Carol Stream)

Dangerous?: Aren’t all successful women?

What made you want to get into video production, and why was it Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2? Why not Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2? Growing up, I always knew I wanted to do something in the entertainment industry. I originally planned on being a TV Host, but — while interning at Revolution — I realized my strengths made me way better at producing than being on camera. Now, I absolutely love producing and can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Where did you go to school, and what did you study? I went to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and studied Broadcast Journalism.

What’s your favorite TV show? Such a tough question! Of all time? Probably Friends. No matter how many times I’ve seen an episode, I die laughing every time.

What are you most excited about in regards to working with Revolution Pictures? I love the family vibe at Revolution Pictures. Everyone that works for them or with them as a freelancer is treated like a family member. Everyone is super caring and helpful. It’s just an all around great atmosphere.

Chocolate or Vanilla, and Why? Swirl! It’s the best of both worlds.

Batman or Superman? Definitely Batman! He’s just a regular guy (no super powers) making a difference in the world.

Tell us about an embarrassing moment in your life. Do it.  I actually don’t embarrass easily. Lots of things happen to me that should embarrass me, though. The only thing that I can think of happened in high school. My sister and I’s lockers were in the hallway where all the “cool” kids gathered after school. When I walked up to my sister’s locker, I slipped on something and completely wiped out in front of everyone. It was like something you’d see in a movie: a slow-mo fall where both feet came out from under me. I fell on my back causing my head to bounce off the floor. Instead of helping me up, my sister started pointing and laughing at me. Everyone else in the hall joined her. Thanks a lot, sis.
